 Meta to end end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages Meta is ending end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages, a feature the company says will no longer be available after May 8, 2026. Unlike WhatsApp, Instagram never offered encryption to all users or as a default; only select users in certain regions could opt in on a per-chat basis. A Meta spokesperson explained that the decision comes due to low adoption. “Very few people were opting in to end-to-end encrypted messaging in DMs, so we’re removing this option from Instagram in the coming months,” the spokesperson said. “Anyone who wants to keep messaging with end-to-end encryption can easily do that on WhatsApp.” Meta’s messaging strategy has shifted multiple times over the years. WhatsApp chats have been encrypted since 2016, and the company began rolling out default encryption for Messenger in 2023. ASUU Awards scholarships to 10 ABU indigent students

The Academic staff union of Universities, ASUU has awarded scholarship grants to ten brilliant indigene students of Ahmadu Bello University zaria. 

The Branch Chairman of the Union, Professor Haruna Mohammed Jibril stated this in an interview with Radio Nigeria in zaria. 

He said the Union instituted the scholarship scheme during its National Executive Council meeting  at Gombe state University in February 2018.

He said under the scheme, the national Union awards #200,000 to two beneficiaries of the grant to assist the indigene students in their academic pursuit. 

The Chairman said the national Union encourages branches to emulate the gesture as ABU Chapter offers additional scholarships to two students from 2018 to 2022.

He added that the #1.6m for eight beneficiaries was in addition to the initial four hundred thousand naira for two beneficiaries from the national body which brings the total money to  two million naira. 

He said that ASUU ABU Chapter disbursed the grant because the students had commenced registration for the new session hence its decision for early release of the funds to beneficiaries. 

According to him, the beneficiaries were bright students who have a minimum CGPA of 3.0 and they also have a history of financial challenges. 

Professor Jibril said the scholarship grants to indigene  students, ASUU had also provided #50m worth of palliatives to the internally Displaced persons across the Northern Nigeria.
