 M23 says hundreds of Burundi soldiers captured in latest Congo offensive The Rwanda-backed M23 group has captured hundreds of Burundian soldiers during its latest offensive in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a rebel official said, as clashes continued despite a warning from the Trump administration. Last week M23 entered the strategic town of Uvira near the border with Burundi, less than a week after the presidents of Congo and Rwanda met in Washington with U.S. President Donald Trump and affirmed their commitment to a peace deal known as the Washington Accords. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Saturday that Rwanda's actions in eastern Congo violated the Washington Accords and vowed to "take action to ensure promises made to the President are kept". Rwanda denies supporting M23 and has blamed Congolese and Burundian forces for the renewed fighting. ASUU Awards scholarships to 10 ABU indigent students

The Academic staff union of Universities, ASUU has awarded scholarship grants to ten brilliant indigene students of Ahmadu Bello University zaria. 

The Branch Chairman of the Union, Professor Haruna Mohammed Jibril stated this in an interview with Radio Nigeria in zaria. 

He said the Union instituted the scholarship scheme during its National Executive Council meeting  at Gombe state University in February 2018.

He said under the scheme, the national Union awards #200,000 to two beneficiaries of the grant to assist the indigene students in their academic pursuit. 

The Chairman said the national Union encourages branches to emulate the gesture as ABU Chapter offers additional scholarships to two students from 2018 to 2022.

He added that the #1.6m for eight beneficiaries was in addition to the initial four hundred thousand naira for two beneficiaries from the national body which brings the total money to  two million naira. 

He said that ASUU ABU Chapter disbursed the grant because the students had commenced registration for the new session hence its decision for early release of the funds to beneficiaries. 

According to him, the beneficiaries were bright students who have a minimum CGPA of 3.0 and they also have a history of financial challenges. 

Professor Jibril said the scholarship grants to indigene  students, ASUU had also provided #50m worth of palliatives to the internally Displaced persons across the Northern Nigeria.
