 Zambia president approves law expanding parliament months before election Zambia's President Hakainde Hichilema on Thursday signed into law constitutional changes that will expand the country's parliament, Reuters reported. The changes increase the number of members of parliament to around 280 from 167 currently by creating more constituencies, reserving 40 new seats for women, youth and people with disabilities, and allowing the president to appoint 11 members instead of eight previously. Hichilema, who will run for a second presidential term in the August 2026 election, said during a signing ceremony that the changes were being made in good faith and there was adequate consultation. He previously argued that some constituencies were too big for effective service delivery and should be split into smaller ones. We live in a world where selfish and fleeting battles are commonplace, but remember, you are the sole master of your destiny. Through your hard work, you will forge your own path and shape your future. No one will hand you anything on a silver platter.


You must be impervious to the manipulations and instrumentalizations of those who would turn you against your family and loved ones. Cutting yourself off from family ties only makes you more vulnerable. You need to block those influences.


No family is perfect, but you have the most important things: my LOVE and my PRIDE as your father.


This day is full of symbolism: it’s your birthday, and you’ll likely be playing your first game for a first-division club. As your father, my emotions overflow, but I must remind you: hold on to the qualities you've cultivated. Your strength of character, your beautiful smile, and the unwavering dream you've nurtured since birth.
