WOMAN WHO KEPT A TAMPON IN FOR 8 HOURS AT A WEDDING ENDED UP FIGHTING FOR HER LIFE IN ICU FROM TOXIC SHOCK SYNDROME. (PHOTO).

Woman who kept a tampon in for 8 hours at a wedding ended up fighting for her life in ICU from Toxic Shock Syndrome.

A Texas mother of 3 is warning women nationwide of the very real dangers of Toxic Shock Syndrome. Ashley DeSkeere says that when she attended a friend's wedding in September she made a nearly fatal error when she left a tampon in for 8 hours. Ashley says she usually changes them every 4 hours but on that day she was distracted by the days events. Even so, she would have never believed only 8 hours would have been enough time to cause a fatal case of Toxic Shock Syndrome.

Two days after the wedding, Ashley woke up with a bad case of the chills and vomiting. She believed she must have caught a stomach bug at the wedding. Within 72 hours after the first reaction she was struggling to breathe and her blood pressure had dropped to dangerously low levels.

Her husband rushed her to the hospital where doctors diagnosed her with Toxic Shock Syndrome.  Ashley would spend the next 5 days in the Intensive Care Unit where doctors would tell her she was lucky to be alive! According to the medical staff, most people pass away after 2 days with untreated Toxic Shock Syndrome and had she waited ANY longer she would have  definitely passed away.

Ashley now vows to never use tampons again and warns women who still choose to use them to change tampons every time you use the restroom and never wear one that is a higher absorbency then what you need.

This is something all women are usually educated about at a young age and I have to say, I am stunned it only took 8 hours for TSS. I've always heard we were safe at 8 hours but no longer. I think many women will be shocked it happened just after 8 hours for her. I'm glad she came forward to educate those of us who maybe didn't realize it could happen much sooner than 12 + hours.

We are so happy she fully recovered!
