 No good deed goes unpunished.  A Florida sea tow captain saved a man from a burning ship only to be shoved overboard and have his boat stolen. This shocking incident occurred near Marco Island on March 6th. On that date, a call went out regarding a burning boat. The captain of a sea tow boat heard the distress call and rushed to provide aid. He was able to quickly locate the burning boat and  discovered 40-year-old, Ryan Deiter, and his dog onboard the burning ship. Wasting no time, the captain of the sea tow boat was able to maneuver alongside the distressed boat and begin efforts to extricate Deiter and his dog from the doomed vessel.  Eventually, the sea tow captain was able to pull both Deiter and his dog onboard the tow boat. However, once Deiter was pulled to safety, he repaid a stranger's kindness with treachery.  Deiter shoved the captain from his own boat and fled the scene in the stolen boat, leaving the man who had just risked his own vessel and life...

Unilorin student commits suicide over hardship


A Mass Communication student of the University of Ilorin (name withheld) has committed suicide in Ilorin.


The Guardian gathered that the student took a poisonous substance to take his own life at his residence at Oke-odo axis of Tanke, Ilorin.


The 200-level male student, according to colleagues, committed suicide because of the current economic hardship in the country.


Our correspondent learnt that the deceased ended his life last week when his roommate had left for lectures.


“We just returned to find a suicidal note that explained his inability to cope again and decided to take the substance and died,” a friend who preferred anonymity stated.


Before his death, the student was on a Cumulative Grade Point Aggregate of 4.5 academic standing.


A source in the varsity who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent that the deceased was being trained and sponsored by his widow’s mother.


He said the deceased committed suicide “due to alleged inability to meet his financial obligations because of the current economic situation in the country.”


He added that the unfortunate young man lost his father a few years ago, leaving his retired school teacher mother with the responsibility for his academic obligations.


A roommate said the deceased has been having a financial crisis since last year when he resumed the university.


“We have been assisting in our own little way by contributing some funds for his tuition fees and buying foodstuffs for him,” a colleague informed,” he said.


Meanwhile, another student of the Department of Mass Communication nearly terminated his life on Monday evening on the campus.


It was gathered that, some students who were said to be passing by saved the life of the student who had tried to tighten a rope around his neck at a nearby bush where had tied ropes round his neck with the intent to commit suicide in the nearby bush on the campus.


A senior officer in the school who sought anonymity confirmed the event to journalists in Ilorin on Tuesday.


He, however, described the incident as a shocking and sad one as the deceased coursemates in the university have been thrown into mourning.


Also on Monday, another student in the same department was rescued by fellow students from committing suicide by hanging.

The student was hurriedly rushed to the institution’s medical center where he is presently being attended to by the medical personnel.
