 No good deed goes unpunished.  A Florida sea tow captain saved a man from a burning ship only to be shoved overboard and have his boat stolen. This shocking incident occurred near Marco Island on March 6th. On that date, a call went out regarding a burning boat. The captain of a sea tow boat heard the distress call and rushed to provide aid. He was able to quickly locate the burning boat and  discovered 40-year-old, Ryan Deiter, and his dog onboard the burning ship. Wasting no time, the captain of the sea tow boat was able to maneuver alongside the distressed boat and begin efforts to extricate Deiter and his dog from the doomed vessel.  Eventually, the sea tow captain was able to pull both Deiter and his dog onboard the tow boat. However, once Deiter was pulled to safety, he repaid a stranger's kindness with treachery.  Deiter shoved the captain from his own boat and fled the scene in the stolen boat, leaving the man who had just risked his own vessel and life...

GOV. ALIA BANS PROTEST, RESTRICTS ACCESS TO BENUE COURTS

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has imposed a ban on protests, unauthorised gatherings, and commercial activities within and around court premises in the state, citing security concerns.

The directive, however, exempts members of the election petitions tribunal, legal counsels, and petitioners involved in ongoing cases.


In a statement issued on Tuesday, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, noted that courts in the state have remained shut since December 6, 2024, due to the ongoing strike by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria.


“To maintain law and order, His Excellency has banned any form of protest, unauthorized gathering, or commercial activities such as hawking within and around court premises. Anyone found violating this directive will face legal consequences,” the statement read.


While restricting access, Governor Alia acknowledged that the Local Government Election Petition Tribunals are utilizing certain court halls for their proceedings.


Given the time-sensitive nature of election-related cases, he emphasized that only the tribunals would be granted access to designated court facilities.


The statement further disclosed that the government has put in place adequate security measures to ensure the safety of tribunal members, petitioners, respondents, legal representatives, witnesses, and tribunal staff.


Alia assured that the state remains committed to upholding due process and ensuring the uninterrupted proceedings of the election petition tribunal.


“As a firm believer in the judiciary and the rule of law, His Excellency urges the public to remain calm and patient while awaiting the tribunal’s decisions. Since assuming office, Benue State has enjoyed relative peace on the security front, though some challenges persist,” the statement added.


The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to security and maintaining a peaceful environment across the state.
