 HAJJ 2026: 1600 LAGOS PILGRIMS ARRIVE SAFELY FROM MAKKAH The 1,600 Lagos pilgrims who participated in the just-concluded Hajj exercise in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have all arrived safely to join their respective families. The safe arrival of the last and final batch of 187 pilgrims on Saturday marked the conclusion of the 2026 Hajj operations. Speaking to journalists at the tarmac of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, the Amir-ul-Hajj and State Commissioner of Home Affairs, Ibrahim Layode said that the spiritual exercise was a success for Lagos State. The Commissioner who attributed the success to the exemplary conduct of the pilgrims while in the Holy Land maintained that the State also made adequate arrangements by engaging critical stakeholders ahead of the journey.  International Women's Day Celebration: Onitsha North LG Mayor Champions Gender Equality

Hon. Nweze Tony Nwora, Mayor of Onitsha North LGA, marked International Women's Day by championing the 2025 theme, "Accelerate Action and the Pursuit of Gender Equality". In his address, he highlighted the urgent need to dismantle systemic barriers and advance lasting gender equality across all sectors.


The Mayor emphasized that his administration's inclusive approach began at the outset of his tenure by ensuring significant representation of women in his cabinet. "Women bring invaluable contributions to every facet of society, and their pivotal roles in community development must be recognized and celebrated," he remarked.


Mayor Nwora urged stakeholders to view this year's theme as a call to action, encouraging the implementation of effective measures to improve opportunities for women and to reinforce commitments to sustainable and equitable development.


 "We must work together to create environments where women can thrive, driving progress and innovation," he added.


Extending his best wishes to the women of Onitsha North and beyond, Mayor Nwora concluded by celebrating their achievements and reaffirming his commitment to gender inclusivity. 


"Happy International Women's Day to all women—your strength and resilience are the backbone of our community," he declared.
