Tanzania closes Nduta camp housing thousands of Burundi refugees Tanzania has closed a camp housing thousands of Burundian refugees and repatriated all but a handful, activists and the United Nations said. Burundian refugees have complained in recent months of being forcibly evicted from the Nduta camp in northwestern Tanzania, following a deal between the governments in Dar Es Salaam and Bujumbura to repatriate around 100,000 of them by June. As of late 2025, there were an estimated 142,000 Burundian refugees housed in two Tanzanian camps - Nduta and Nyarugusu, according to the United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR). Vatican officials said Saturday Pope Francis was resting peacefully after suffering a breathing crisis Friday.

“The pope spent a peaceful night and is resting,” the Vatican said in a statement.

Francis had a setback Friday during his stay at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, where he has been for the last two weeks.

The Vatican said an “isolated breathing incident” caused the 88-year-old pontiff to inhale his vomit, which required noninvasive mechanical ventilation.

'Our heart is on 10th floor of Gemelli' - hospital staff march to Vatican for Pope

Braving the rain, healthcare workers from Gemelli Hospital, where Pope Francis is undergoing treatment for double pneumonia, made a pilgrimage to St. Peter's Basilica on Saturday (March 1).

Hundreds of hospital staff holding umbrellas walked down the Via della Conciliazione, a road leading up to St Peter's Basilica at the Vatican, praying for Pope Francis.

The pilgrimage was part of the Jubilee Audience with the pope, which was cancelled after he had been in hospital for just over two weeks fighting double pneumonia.

On Saturday morning the Vatican said the pope had a peaceful night and had been resting after a health setback the day before.

The 88-year-old pontiff experienced a breathing crisis on Friday (February 28), renewing concerns over his well-being.

A Vatican official, who did not wish to be named because he was not authorized to discuss the pope's health, said Francis had not had another respiratory crisis since then.

In a one-line statement, the Vatican said the night had passed peacefully. The official said the pope had breakfast, including a cup of coffee. The next detailed medical bulletin is expected at around 7 p.m. (1800 GMT).
