Lagos police launch investigation as jeweller  accuses its officers of harassment The Lagos State Police Command said it has commenced an investigation into a viral video of a jeweller accusing some policemen in the Festac area of the state of harassing him.  The command disclosed this in an X post on Saturday. The video, which circulated on X on Saturday morning, shows the businessman engaged in a struggle with some policemen. Later in the video, the businessman could be seen with a bloody face after allegedly sustaining a cut beside his right eye during the struggle with the police officers,  The jeweller later explained that the policemen from the Festac Division had stopped him for a routine search.  APC Warns Senator Ndume Over Comments Comparing Tinubu to Jonathan’s 2015 Defeat


The All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a warning to former Senate Chief Whip, Senator Ali Ndume, over his recent remarks cautioning that President Bola Tinubu could face a fate similar to former President Goodluck Jonathan’s 2015 electoral defeat if current challenges are not addressed. The party emphasized that while it welcomes diverse opinions, it has mechanisms to discipline members who violate its constitution.


In an exclusive interview with newsmen on Monday, APC Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, described Ndume as a respected party leader but stressed that the party expects members to express views in line with its progressive ideals and established rules. “The APC is a liberal-minded party that tolerates diverse perspectives, provided they do not violate the party’s constitution,” Ibrahim said. He added that the party has “machinery for censorship or punishment” for actions deemed contrary to acceptable behavior.


Ndume, representing Borno South, had warned during a Sunday interview that Tinubu risks losing the 2027 election if he fails to address Nigeria’s “crippling economic hardship” and growing public discontent. Referencing the 2015 election, where Jonathan, backed by 22 governors, lost to APC’s Muhammadu Buhari (15,424,921 votes to 12,853,162), Ndume cautioned that the current wave of endorsements for Tinubu could create a false sense of security. “Tinubu could be given the Jonathan treatment… Jonathan lost woefully,” he said, urging the President to avoid complacency.


The senator also criticized reported moves by some APC leaders to grant automatic tickets to sitting lawmakers, warning that such actions could alienate grassroots supporters crucial for electoral success. “You cannot rely on governors alone,” Ndume remarked.


Despite his concerns, Ndume expressed optimism, noting that Tinubu has time to reverse the situation. “If in the next two years the President can make Nigerians happy—really happy—then nobody will contest against him,” he said.


The APC’s response underscores its commitment to internal discipline while maintaining openness to constructive criticism, as the party navigates its strategy ahead of the 2027 polls.
