The London-bound Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on June 12, killing 241 out of 242 people onboard, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. The aircraft struck a doctor’s hostel on the hospital premises, also claiming the lives of at least 33 individuals on the ground, including MBBS students and residents.
The lone survivor, Vishwashkumar Ramesh, a British national of Indian origin, is currently under treatment. Meanwhile, the mortal remains of Vijay Rupani are being prepared for state funeral in Rajkot, with the national flag to be draped over his body. Around 2,000 kilograms of flowers will be used to decorate the hearse van. Authorities stated that all remains will be handed over to families with full dignity.
