Meta to end end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages Meta is ending end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages, a feature the company says will no longer be available after May 8, 2026. Unlike WhatsApp, Instagram never offered encryption to all users or as a default; only select users in certain regions could opt in on a per-chat basis. A Meta spokesperson explained that the decision comes due to low adoption. “Very few people were opting in to end-to-end encrypted messaging in DMs, so we’re removing this option from Instagram in the coming months,” the spokesperson said. “Anyone who wants to keep messaging with end-to-end encryption can easily do that on WhatsApp.” Meta’s messaging strategy has shifted multiple times over the years. WhatsApp chats have been encrypted since 2016, and the company began rolling out default encryption for Messenger in 2023.  Resident Doctors Call Off Strike In Kaduna

The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) at Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital in Kaduna has officially suspended its six-day warning strike.

Dr. Josiah Yakubu, the chapter president, confirmed the development on Monday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). He stated that the decision came after an emergency congress held on Saturday and a series of meetings, notably involving both national and state leaders of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).

According to Yakubu, hospital services will resume on Tuesday, with senior staff returning by 8:00 a.m. and other resident doctors by 10:00 a.m.

He noted that since the strike began, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) has intervened to mediate on behalf of the Kaduna State Government. This intervention led to further discussions with the NMA leadership, marking a shift from earlier tensions, during which some doctors received termination and warning letters—actions Yakubu described as unilaterally taken by hospital management.

During the recent dialogue, parties were able to review the issues at stake and propose possible solutions to resolve the industrial dispute. Yakubu emphasized the importance of ensuring that doctors are treated fairly and that healthcare delivery in the state remains unaffected.

The Kaduna State Government reportedly acknowledged the legitimacy of the doctors’ concerns and committed to addressing them. As part of the resolution, the SSG requested a two-month window to begin tackling key issues around staffing and doctor remuneration.

A cost analysis for transitioning from the 2014 to the 2024 CONMESS salary structure has been submitted for the Governor’s review. A memorandum of understanding was also signed by representatives of the SSG, NMA, NARD, and other related associations.

The final outcome of these deliberations will be communicated to the respective congresses of the resident doctors at Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital and the broader ARD Kaduna chapter for evaluation.

Yakubu assured that both NMA and NARD leadership will continue to monitor the situation until all demands are satisfactorily addressed.
