Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali.  Kaduna Health Centre Serving Multiple Communities In Ruins — Lacks Beds, Staff, And Basic Amenities

A recent inspection by Monitng, a civic technology platform, has exposed the appalling state of Kuringa Health Clinic in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State — the only facility serving several surrounding communities.

During their visit, Monitng found no medical staff, no hospital beds, no electricity, no clean water, and no functional medical equipment at the clinic.

"The facility is crumbling, and the lives of vulnerable citizens are being put at risk every day," the platform reported.

The building itself is in disrepair, with cracked walls, broken windows, scattered records, and completely empty wards. As a result, pregnant women, children, and the elderly are forced to travel long distances just to access basic healthcare services that should be available within their community.

This situation is particularly alarming considering the billions of naira allocated each year to healthcare in Kaduna State, along with support from international partners such as the World Bank, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, GAVI, UNICEF, WHO, and national initiatives like the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) and the Nigeria State Health Investment Project (NSHIP).

These programs were created to strengthen primary healthcare systems and reduce maternal and child mortality, yet Kuringa Clinic remains abandoned and non-functional.

Monitng is calling on the Kaduna State Ministry of Health (@KadunaMOH) to take urgent action. They are demanding a complete renovation of the clinic, proper staffing, access to clean water and electricity, and the provision of essential medical equipment.

"This is not an attack on the government—it’s a call for accountability. Public funds are meant to serve the people. The residents of Kuringa and Giwa LGA deserve better," says the organization.
