Lizzy Anjorin battles blogger in court over alleged falsehoods

Operatives of the Zone 2 Command, Lagos, have arrested a 37-year-old blogger, Kofoworola Akanji, and arraigned her before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court for allegedly publishing false and damaging statements about Nollywood actress and businesswoman, Lizzy Anjorin, on Facebook and other social media platforms.

Police said the complainant, Anjorin, petitioned the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2, AIG Adegoke Fayoade, after discovering the alleged false publication online.

She sought urgent assistance to identify and apprehend the publisher.

Following the petition, AIG Fayoade ordered a special team led by SP Chidi Okoye to investigate. After days of intelligence gathering, the team tracked and arrested Akanji.

Upon completion of investigations by Inspector Felix Iwereala and his team, the defendant was charged before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court, sitting at Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos Island, on a three-count charge bordering on unlawful publication of false information and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

Police prosecutor, ASP Ibrahim Haruna, told the court under charge number P/42/2025 that Akanji, along with others still at large, committed the offence in 2023.

Haruna alleged that the defendant intentionally published false and offensive content on Facebook to provoke and harm the complainant’s reputation.

The prosecution said the offences contravened Sections 39, 57, and 150 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

One of the counts alleged that Akanji and others still at large, in a manner likely to provoke the complainant, published and distributed obscene materials likely to corrupt public perception of Lizzy Anjorin.

Akanji pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Magistrate Mrs N.A. Wahab granted her bail in the sum of ₦100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until 21 August 2025 for mention.
