 PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE COMMENDS RESILIENCE OF NIGERIAN WORKERS President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio has congratulated Nigerian workers on International Labour Day 2026, praising their resilience, hard work, and patriotism despite economic challenges. In his May Day message, Akpabio described workers as the true heroes of Nigeria’s democracy and the engine of the economy.  NBMA DG/CEO BELLO BWARI REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO RENEWED HOPE AGENDA ON FOOD SECURITY: APPROVES 3 GMO CROPS FOR USE


The Director General and Chief Executive Officer, National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA)Bello Bawa Bwari has reaffirmed the agency's commitment to Advance President Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda through the promotion of safe and approved biotechnology innovations aimed at achieving food security and sovereignty in Nigeria. 


Bello made this known during a courtesy visit by the institute for Agricultural Research team to the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.


He emphasized that the agency under his watch, will ensure compliance of stakeholders in achieving food security which will trickle down to good health of Nigerians.

The DG urged them to remain steadfast in complying with biosafety guidelines as the agency strives to endorse only scientifically proven biotech  products,proven to be safe for human, animal and environmental consumption. 

He reiterated that the NBMA so far has approved commercial release of three Genetically modified crops in Nigeria, BT Cotton, PBR Cowpea and TELA maize, all developed in Nigerai by the institute for Agricultural research Ahmadu bello university Zaria.
