AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk.  Atiku Abubakar urges Ndi Anambra to vote ADC as he Endorses ADC Candidate Ahead of Anambra Governorship Election

Former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has stirred political debate after openly endorsing the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Nwosu Chima John, and his running mate, Nwobu Geoffrey Ndubisi, ahead of the November 8 Anambra governorship election.

In a post shared on his official X handle on Sunday, Atiku described the upcoming poll as “a unique opportunity to end the era of poor governance” in Anambra State. He urged voters to rally behind the ADC ticket, which he said represents “a new era of prosperity and economic stability” for the state

“The election next weekend calls our consciousness to a moment when we must rally round the candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Nwosu Chima John and Nwobu Geoffrey Ndubisi, to lead Anambra State to a new era of prosperity and economic stability,” Atiku wrote.

He also challenged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), led by Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN), to ensure a credible and transparent process, insisting that the integrity of Nigeria’s elections must not be compromised to favor the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
