BENUE GOVT SHUTS OTUKPO HOSPITAL OVER SHOCKING DOUBLE-BREAST REMOVAL ALLEGATION

The Benue State Government has sealed St. John’s Hospital in Otukpo following alarming reports of substandard medical practices, including a disturbing case in which a patient allegedly had both breasts removed without proper clinical procedure.

Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Paul Ogwuche, confirmed the action on Saturday, describing it as a necessary step after the hospital repeatedly failed to comply with established medical standards.

He said the ministry had been monitoring the facility after receiving several complaints bordering on unethical practices. An enforcement team was dispatched on Friday, led by the Director of Medical Services, Dr. Agbadu Joshua, and supported by the Nigerian Medical Association’s Anti-Quackery Committee chairman, Dr. Alex Iorbo, as well as desk officers from Otukpo and Gboko.

According to Ogwuche, the inspection revealed that the hospital was operating in unsafe conditions and failing to follow approved treatment protocols. Among the red flags was the reported double-breast removal allegedly carried out on November 25 without adherence to clinical guidelines.

The facility was immediately sealed, and the Medical Superintendent was issued a query and ordered to appear before the ministry on Monday for further questioning.

Ogwuche stressed that the government is intensifying its fight against quackery and unsafe medical practices, warning that any health facility found endangering patients will face swift sanctions.

He urged practitioners to uphold ethical and professional standards, noting that the administration is committed to strengthening quality healthcare delivery across the state.
