Kaduna State Police Command has dismantled an alleged child-trafficking operation, rescuing 17 minors and arresting three individuals suspected to be behind the scheme.
DSP Mansir Hassan, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed the development in a statement on Thursday.
According to Hassan, police acted swiftly on November 12 after receiving credible intelligence about suspicious activities near the Danmagaji Flyover in Zaria. Responding to the tip-off, officers from the Danmagaji Division intercepted the suspects and discovered 17 children of various ages.
Hassan explained that the children were “allegedly being prepared for trafficking to Abuja and other parts of the country and beyond.”
The three arrested suspects whose identities were withheld are reportedly from Funtua, Ingawa, and Unguwa Uku in Katsina and Kano States. Early investigations indicate that the children were taken from different communities and were being transported to Abuja.
“All the rescued children are in good health and are now under the care of the police command,” Hassan stated, adding that authorities are working to identify and reunite them with their families.
Hassan also quoted Commissioner of Police Rabiu Muhammad, who commended the officers for their quick response and reaffirmed the command’s zero-tolerance policy against child trafficking and exploitation. The suspects will face charges once investigations are completed.
The police urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and avoid falling for promises of opportunities for their children in distant cities. Communities were encouraged to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station for immediate action.
