 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week.  Police Arrest Three Suspects in Separate Incidents Across Limpopo


Police in the Senwabarwana policing area arrested three suspects in separate incidents as part of ongoing crime-combating operations.


In the first incident, a male suspect was arrested at Dilaeneng Village for possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, and suspected drugs. This followed information received by multi-disciplinary teams about a man allegedly carrying a firearm. Officers proceeded to the identified house, conducted a search, and discovered an unlicensed pistol with ammunition, along with 26 sachets containing suspected drugs.


In a second incident at Boknafarm Village on Friday, 14 November 2025, the Provincial Intervention Team, together with Mighty Security, arrested a 52-year-old woman for possession of illicit cigarettes. The cigarettes were found concealed in various hiding places within her residence.


Meanwhile, in the Sekhukhune District, police arrested another male suspect after receiving intelligence that he was in possession of an unlicensed firearm at a local taxi rank. The information was swiftly acted upon, leading to the suspect being identified and apprehended.


All arrested suspects are expected to appear in various Magistrate’s Courts in the coming week, facing charges related to possession of unlicensed firearms, drugs, and illicit cigarettes.
