 NDLEA dismantles Abuja drug bunks, arrests 132, recovers 220kg illicit substances  -Marwa hails operation, vows to sustain crackdown in FCT, other states  In a non-stop two-week offensive action against traffickers and dealers, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have successfully dismantled several drug joints and bunks within and around the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja where a total of 132 suspects were arrested and 220 kilograms of assorted illicit substances recovered. The wel-coordinated raids jointly conducted by the Agency's Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) and the FCT Strategic Command from llth to 25th April 2026 were launched to dismantle illicit drug hubs contributing to substance abuse, trafficking, and associated criminal activities in the capital city after weeks of intelligence and surveillance across all identified hotspots. Six Die, Five Injured In Ghastly Motor Accident In Anambra State.


‎Tragedy struck a condolence team returning from Ebonyi state when their vehicle was involved in a ghastly motor accident, which claimed six persons, among them four women, while five others sustained varying degrees of injury.

‎The ghastly motor accident occurred in Nawfia in Njikoka local government area, along Awka–Onitsha old road in Anambra state.

‎The crash which occured on Friday at 6:20 pm, involved two vehicles: a tipper lorry and a 608 long bus carrying 32 passengers.

‎One of the passengers of the bus said they were travelling from Ebonyi State to Onitsha after attending a burial organised by the Catholic Women Organisation (CWO).

‎He blamed the crash on the driver’s recklessness, including dangerous overtaking.He said:

‎ “The driver had been driving recklessly, with several dangerous overtakings probably to make up for lost time. It was this particular overtaking that led to the collision with the tipper,” he lamented.

‎The State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Bridget Asekhauno, confirmed the crash.‎She said the deceased had been deposited at the morgue while the injured are receiving treatment at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku.


‎While sympathising with the deceased families, the Asekhauno prayed for the quick recovery of the injured.

‎She urged motorists to respect traffic laws, avoid aggressive overtaking and to prioritise safety for all road users.

‎According to her “The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) RS5.3 Awka responded to a fatal crash on the Awka–Onitsha Road at the Nawfia axis.

‎“The incident occurred at approximately 06:20 hours involving two vehicles – a yellow-and-black tipper truck with registration number FGG 21XV and a red 608 bus registration XQ 398 AA.The total number of people involved was 32, comprising 9 male adults and 23 female adults."

‎“The collision resulted in six fatalities—two male adults and four female adults. 5 female adults sustained injuries, and 21 people were rescued unhurt.‎They took all victims to the Teaching Hospital Amaku-Awka, where medical staff confirmed the deaths"

‎According to the release, FRSC officers have since cleared the road obstruction and restored normal traffic flow.

‎“This tragic incident is a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of reckless driving.We extend our deepest sympathies to the families of the victims and urge all motorists to respect traffic laws, avoid aggressive overtaking, and prioritise safety for all road users.
