 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week.  Sultan Of Sokoto  Sa'ad Abubakar Urges Muslims To Project Nigeria's Unity


Sultan of Sokoto and Chairman Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Muhammed Sa'ad Abubakar III at the council's Expanded General Purpose Committee Meeting holding in Abuja urged Muslim faithful to

show actions that will sustain and project unity in Nigeria. 


As a religious body,  he reiterated commitment on behalf of other leaders to play a positive role in addressing the current challenges of negative commentaries about the religious status of Nigerians.


He cautioned the  use of social media as a tool for propaganda, propagating personal negative narratives about Nigeria. 


Also at the meeting is the Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris, who says the desire of the current administration is not to build a nation through guns but by saying the truth.


Recent happenigs within the past few days where some people had alleged Nigeria as a country of religious intolerance the Minister said is Fake news that is endangering  democracy.


He unequivocally stated the position of President Bola Tinubu to  preserve the unity and respect the sovereignty of Nigeria assuring that all diplomatic channels activated are working towards building peace and security in Nigeria.
