 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week. CP Omolori Bids Farewell to the Retiring AIG Zone 12


The Editors,


The Bauchi State Police Command received AIG Zone 12, AIG Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, psc on a farewell tour to the Command. The Assistant Inspector General of Police was welcomed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, psc(+), mni, and his management team to the Bauchi Command.


The CP delivered a welcome address. In his remarks, he noted that:


 “Your tenure as the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 12 has been a beacon of hope and excellence. Your guidance, mentorship, and humility have inspired us all. You have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the Nigeria Police Force’s core values, and your dedication to duty is a shining example for us to emulate. 


“As you retire on January 1st, 2026, we will greatly miss your leadership, expertise, and counsel. However, we take solace in knowing that your wealth of experience will continue to inspire and guide us. We hope to tap into your knowledge and expertise from time to time, and we pray that ALLAH (SWT) continues to bless you with good health and wisdom.


 “Sir, your legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of the officers and men of the Bauchi State Police Command. We are grateful for your services, and we wish you a happy and fulfilling retirement.”


In his farewell remarks, AIG Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, psc, stated that

he was born on 1st January, 1966, which means that by 1st January, 2026, he will be retiring from the Force by age. He added that himself, family and other loved ones had explicitly enjoyed his working with the Nigeria Police Force. He However, expressed no regret in joining the noble profession as a very conservative and passionate officer, which makes him proud to retire with dignity and leave behind highly dignified personnel in the Force.


The AIG thanked the Commissioner of Police, his management team, other senior officers, Inspectors, and rank and files for the result-oriented commitment in discharging the constitutional responsibilities of the Zonal Police Command.
