AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. GOOGLE INTRODUCES FEATURE LETTING USERS CHANGE THEIR GMAIL ADDRESSES. (PHOTO)

Google introduces feature letting users change their Gmail addresses

Google is introducing a new feature that allows users to change their Gmail addresses, a long-requested update that could help people stuck with old or embarrassing email names.

For now, the feature appears to be limited to India or Hindi-speaking markets, as it has been detailed on Google’s Hindi support page. It allows users to replace their existing Gmail address with a new one while keeping all data and services intact. According to the support page, the feature will be “gradually rolling out to all users,” suggesting a potential global launch in the future.

Previously, Gmail addresses could not be changed, forcing users to create a new account and manually transfer their data. With the new system, users can keep their original address as an alias, so emails sent to the old address will still arrive in their inbox. The old address can still be used to sign in to Google services like Drive, Maps, and YouTube, and photos, messages, and other data remain unaffected.

The old Gmail address can be reused later, but users should note that a new Google account cannot be created with the new email for a year, and the new address cannot be deleted once the change is made.
