AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week. He urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint, de-escalate tensions immediately, and comply fully with the permanent ceasefire and power-sharing arrangements under the agreement, T...

APC national leadership did not support Anambra Governorship candidate enough to unseat Soludo in the last Anambra Governorship Election- Uche Ekwunife

Deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the Anambra gubernatorial election, Senator Uche Ekwunife, says the party’s national leadership failed to give its candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, the support needed to unsit Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

Ekwunife spoke during a stakeholders meeting in Awka, to appraise the ongoing e-registration process.

The outspoken former lawmaker said the November 8, 2025 governorship election witnessed massive commitment from party members in the state, but the party’s national leaders failed to show same level of commitment. She added that just 20 percent support from the party would have aided them to unseat Soludo

She said: “The extent of support and commitment we saw in the last election among members of APC in Anambra State has never happened before. If the party (national) had given us even 20 percent push, we would have gone far. We failed everybody, we failed our party, we failed our people.

“Yes, it is true that God gives power to who He wills, power belongs to God and God belongs to all of us, including politicians in our party, so He can give it to us if we work for it. That is why Jesus said give Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to Him.

In this last election, I saw commitment among party members. For the first time, APC members in Anambra were desirous of winning election for themselves but all they wanted was support. They only needed to be recognized as members of a rulling party in Nigeria.”

Speaking about the ongoing e-registration process, she encouraged members to ensure they participate in the process as it is not just for headcount, but a process that will determine how the party rewards it members.

She also insisted that the party has agreed to field President Bola Tinubu in the next election

"I want to tell you that we already have a candidate for 2027 presidential election, and he is President Bola Tinubu. We have agreed that he will fly the party’s ticket and we will support him"

“I had the privilege of serving in the eight and ninth Senate with Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the wife of the President, and I can tell you that with she and her husband, Nigeria is in good hands.”.

Earlier, the chairman of the party in the state, Mr Basil Ejidike, expressed unhappiness about the poor participation of members in the ongoing e-registration process. He announced that Abuja and Anambra are the poorest in performance, urging members to buckle up.
