Since Nnamdi Kanu and Simon Ekpa Were Jailed; Crimes Have Significantly Decreased in Southeast- Defence Headquarters

Major General Michael Onoja, Director of Defense Media Operations, has reported a substantial decline in criminal activities across Nigeria's southeastern region, attributing the success to intensified military operations and recent legal developments against separatist group leaders.

Speaking on the security situation in the region, General Onoja identified the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its Eastern Security Network as the primary security threats that have long plagued the area. However, he emphasized that the security landscape has improved dramatically over the past year.

"Crimes and other criminal activities have significantly decreased during the year following troops intensified operations across the southeastern states," Onoja stated, highlighting the effectiveness of sustained military engagement in the region.

The Director attributed this positive development to two key factors: enhanced military presence and operations throughout southeastern states, and crucial court rulings against the group's leadership. He specifically mentioned the jailing of Simon Ekpa by the Finnish government and the detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, in Abuja.

According to General Onoja, "These developments have substantially degraded the group's capabilities," marking a turning point in the federal government's efforts to restore peace and security to the region.

The intensified military operations have involved coordinated efforts across multiple southeastern states, with troops maintaining a robust presence to deter criminal elements and respond swiftly to security threats.

General Onoja's assessment suggests that the military's strategy of sustained pressure, coupled with international cooperation that led to Ekpa's arrest in Finland, has proven effective in dismantling the operational structure of IPOB and its armed wing.
