Justin Timberlake sues to stop release of video showing his DWI arrest

Justin Timberlake is seeking to block the release of police body camera footage from his June 2024 arrest in the Hamptons for driving while intoxicated.

His attorneys argue that making the video public would violate his privacy, as it contains sensitive personal details and information unrelated to law enforcement matters.

They have asked a Suffolk County judge to either prevent disclosure entirely or privately review the footage to ensure only legally permissible material is released.

The request comes after several media outlets, including NBC News, filed public records requests for the footage.

Timberlake’s legal team emphasized that the eight hours of continuous recording capture moments beyond the arrest, including private aspects of his life and bystanders who also have privacy rights.

They warned that releasing the video could cause irreparable harm through stigma, harassment, and reputational damage. Meanwhile, Sag Harbor officials had planned to release portions of the video with redactions, but negotiations are ongoing as the court has not yet ruled.

Timberlake pleaded guilty in September 2024 to driving while impaired, admitting he had consumed one martini before driving. As part of his sentence, he agreed to perform 25 to 40 hours of community service and pay a fine.

Outside the courthouse, he acknowledged his mistake and expressed hope that others could learn from his experience.

The dispute over the bodycam footage now centers on balancing public transparency with individual privacy protections.
