 LAWMA SEALS PREMISES ON AGO PALACE WAY, ARRESTS 11 DUMPERS ON LAGOS ISLAND … Intensifies Enforcement Against Illegal Waste Disposal In renewed enforcement efforts, the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has sealed premises identified for persistent illegal waste dumping along Ago Palace Way and arrested 11 persons for illegal waste disposal in various parts of Lagos Island. The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said that the enforcement operations underscored the Authority’s resolve to enforce existing waste management regulations and ensure compliance with approved waste disposal practices across Lagos. He explained that the Ago Palace Way operation covered plazas, hotels, lounges and warehouses along the corridor, as part of efforts to tackle activities contributing to waste build-up and environmental nuisance on road setbacks, medians and other unauthorised public spaces.  NCC BOARD COMMENDS INDUSTRY'S INFRASTRUCTURE EXPANSION EFFORTS


The Governing Board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC)  has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s telecommunications sector and advancing the nation’s digital economy. It also commended the industry's infrastructure expansion drive. This was at the NCC 109th Board Meeting where they issued a communique. 


The Board commended Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) for ongoing investments aimed at expanding network coverage and improving Quality of Experience for consumers. It noted that operators have planned the deployment of more than 12,000 additional coverage and capacity sites nationwide, with over 5,000 already completed.


The Board also acknowledged the expansion of fibre connectivity to more than 700 sites and infrastructure upgrades across over 2,000 Base Transceiver Stations by co-location and infrastructure-sharing licensees.


On consumer protection, the Board reviewed the implementation of directives requiring operators to compensate subscribers affected by poor Quality of Service and noted substantial compliance. More than 75 million subscribers have so far benefited from compensation measures, while validation exercises continue to ensure all eligible consumers are adequately covered.


The Board also considered Nigeria’s growing demand for data services and emphasized the importance of expanding fibre infrastructure to improve service quality, reduce pressure on mobile networks, and enhance connectivity for homes, businesses, and institutions. It noted the significant growth in Fibre-to-the-Home subscriptions and reaffirmed support for policies that will encourage broader access to wholesale backbone and metropolitan fibre networks.


Addressing sector challenges, the Board expressed concern over persistent incidents of infrastructure vandalism and reiterated the need for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to protect telecommunications assets. It commended ongoing
