  DEVELOPING STORY: Man Found Unconscious After Allegedly Throwing Children From Storey Building in Aba A man was reportedly found unconscious but still breathing after allegedly falling from a storey building at New Phase of Umuobe by Barracks, Opobo Road, Obignwa, Abia State. The incident, which occurred on Thursday, has caused panic among residents of the area. Eyewitnesses told Magic FM Aba that the man allegedly threw two of his children from the building before attempting to throw down his wife. However, the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear. The two children were reportedly rushed to a hospital for medical attention. As of the time of filing this report, Magic FM Aba could not independently confirm their condition or whether they survived the fall. The man, who sustained an injury to the head, was still lying in front of his house and had yet to receive assistance as of the time of this report.  RUSSIAN OIL EXEC FALLS FROM 17TH FLOOR TO HIS DEATH  The vice president of Transneft, 62-year-old Andrei Badalov, fell from the 17th floor of his house to his death in Moscow on Friday. Transneft is a Russian state-owned oil pipeline operator.  Badalov lived on the 10th floor of the building, but given that he dropped from the 17th floor, police authorities believe he may have committed suicide. His may be the 11th mysterious death of a senior oil and gas executive, including top managers at Lukoil, Gazprom, Novatek and others, since the beginning of Russia’s war in Ukraine. The deceased left a farewell message to his wife who died in 2018 before the incident that claimed his life. His daughter said he seemed emotionally exhausted in recent weeks before the incident.

 RUSSIAN MINISTER COMMITS SUICIDE AFTER PUTIN SACKS HIM The former Minister of Transport in Russia, Roman Starovoit, killed himself hours after President Vladimir Putin sacked him on Monday. Starovoit was found dead with gunshot wounds in his car shortly after Putin fired him. The honorary firearm given him by the Interior Ministry in 2023 was discharged. The Investigative Committee of Russia ruled his death as suicide. Government sources said Starovoit was being probed for corruption before Putin unceremoniously relieved him of his duties. Putin named Andrey Nikitin, a former governor of the Novgorod region, as acting transport minister.

 NEW TIKTOK VERSION IN THE WORKS AHEAD OF US SALE  Given President Donald Trump's order to acquire TikTok, the Chinese company is reportedly building another TikTok version for US users. Trump initially accused the short video app of spying for the Chinese government and ordered the ByteDance firm to divest its US assets. Trump said a group of wealthy US investors is ready to acquire the company, even though the US president wants China to sign off on the acquisition. Insiders said the new TikTok version will launch on September 5 because Trump gave a September 17 deadline for the deal.  TikTok users may have to download the new app to be able to continue using the service, although the existing app will work until March of next year.

 Alleged N110.4bn Fraud:  Court Reserves Ruling on Yahaya Bello’s Travel Application Till July 17 Justice Marianne Anineh of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court, Maitama, Abuja, on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, reserved ruling till July 17, 2025, on an application filed by  former Kogi State governor,  Yahaya Adoza Bello,   seeking permission to travel to the United Kingdom for medical treatment. Bello is standing trial alongside Umar Shuaibu Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu on a 16-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust and money laundering to the tune of N110.4 billion.  Naira stable as confidence in President Tinubu's  reforms grows- Bloomberg Nigeria’s currency appears to be decoupling from the price of oil, the nation’s main source of foreign exchange. After some initial volatility in the first half, the naira stabilised even as oil prices fell.  Analysts from Deutsche Bank AG to Cardinal Stone expect the Nigerian currency to end the year near 1,556 per dollar — its average exchange rate in the first six months of 2025 after it slumped 41% in 2024. It traded around 1,530 on Tuesday, largely flat on a year-to-date basis. The change in the naira’s fortunes can be attributed to its undervaluation, higher non-oil exports and lower import demand, said Ayo Salami, chief investment officer at Emerging Markets Investment Management Ltd. in London.  FG officially pegs university admission age at 16 after U-turn on directive not to admit candidates below 18 years. The federal government has officially pegged the age for admission into the nation’s tertiary institutions at age 16. Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, said this on Tuesday, July 8, while declaring open the ongoing Policy Meeting of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, in Abuja. Alausa declared that the official age of 16 set by the government is not negotiable. He also warned that any admission conducted outside of the Central Admission Processing System, CAPS, would be illegal and perpetrators would be prosecuted. He said that the heads of institutions found to be engaged in admission fraud would face prosecution.
