 IGP DISU DEPLOYS COMMISSIONERS OF POLICE TO COMMANDS, STRATEGIC FORMATIONS The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, has approved the deployment of Commissioners of Police to State Commands and strategic formations across the country following the approval of his recommendations by the Police Service Commission. The deployment is aimed at strengthening operational effectiveness, enhancing leadership across Commands and formations, and consolidating the ongoing reform and repositioning of the Nigeria Police Force.  DEFENCE MINISTER GEN MUSA LAUDS PRESIDENT TINUBU ON NEW SALARY PACKAGE FOR ARMED FORCES  The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has commended President Bola Tinubu for approving a historic salary increase for personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, describing the decision as a major boost to troop welfare and national security. A statement  by his Special Assistant on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde, says the new salary structure, which takes effect on September 1, 2026, will benefit about 250,000 military personnel across the Nigerian Army, Navy and Air Force. It further explains that the package provides an 80 percent salary increase for junior ranks, a 50 percent increase for middle-level officers and non-commissioned officers, and a 30 percent increase for senior military officers, nothing that the approval demonstrates President Tinubu's commitment to improving the welfare of service personnel and advancing ongoing security sector reforms.  Th...

 SENATE COMMITTEES ON DEFENCE / ARMY COMMEND PRESIDENT TINUBU FOR ARMED FORCES SALARY INCREASE  Senate Committees on Defence and that of Army  have commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving a major salary increase for the Nigerian Armed Forces, effective September 1st 2026. In seperate statements the Chairman of the Committee on Defence, Senator Ahmad Lawan and that of Army Committee Senator Abdulaziz Yaradua described the increase as a mark of compassion and strategic  leadeship. Under the new structure, junior ranks from Private to Staff Sergeant will get an 80 percent pay rise, Warrant Officers to Colonels get 50 percent, while senior officers up to the rank of General get 30 percent.  Moderna begins first human trial of Bundibugyo Ebola vaccine Moderna said on Tuesday that it had begun its first human trial of an experimental vaccine to protect against Bundibugyo ebolavirus, a strain of Ebola that has killed more than 1,700 people so far and currently has no approved vaccine. Health Canada has cleared an early-stage study and the first volunteers have already received the shot, called mRNA-1469, according to the vaccine maker. The experimental shot uses the same mRNA technology behind Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine. The trial, which will run at three sites in Canada, aims to enroll about 80 healthy adults to check if the vaccine is safe and triggers an immune response, Reuters reported. The work is part of an expanded partnership with the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, or CEPI, which has pledged up to $50 million to help fund the vaccine's early testing and manufacturing.
