 PDP Hails INEC’s Publication Of 2027 Candidates The Peoples Democratic Party has welcomed the publication by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the names of candidates for the 2027 general election, describing the development as a proof of doubts over its ability to field a presidential candidate had been laid to rest. A statement issued in Abuja by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, said the release of the names of its presidential candidate, Senator Sandy Ojang Onor, and running mate, Alhaji Babangida Umar, alongside its National Assembly candidates, marked a significant milestone in its preparations for the 2027 polls. The Party noted that the publication had effectively dispelled months of speculation and what it described as misinformation by political opponents who had claimed the party would be unable to present a presidential candidate.  Ugandan Athlete Attacked and Set on Fire by Boyfriend, Receiving Treatment for Severe Burns


A Ugandan runner based in Kenya, Rebecca Cheptegei, is recovering from severe burns after a horrific attack by her boyfriend, according to police reports. 


Cheptegei, who was at the 2024 Paris Olympics, was set on fire during a dispute at her home in Trans Nzoia County, Kenya. 


The Trans Nzoia County Police Commander, Jeremiah ole Kosiom, revealed that the boyfriend, Dickson Ndiema, purchased petrol, doused her with it, and ignited the flames on Sunday. 


Ndiema also suffered burns, and both are currently receiving specialized care at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret.


Cheptegei’s parents mentioned that she had recently bought land in Trans Nzoia to be close to several athletic training centers in the area. A local report suggests that the argument that led to the attack was related to this property.
