 HAJJ 2026: 1600 LAGOS PILGRIMS ARRIVE SAFELY FROM MAKKAH The 1,600 Lagos pilgrims who participated in the just-concluded Hajj exercise in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have all arrived safely to join their respective families. The safe arrival of the last and final batch of 187 pilgrims on Saturday marked the conclusion of the 2026 Hajj operations. Speaking to journalists at the tarmac of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, the Amir-ul-Hajj and State Commissioner of Home Affairs, Ibrahim Layode said that the spiritual exercise was a success for Lagos State. The Commissioner who attributed the success to the exemplary conduct of the pilgrims while in the Holy Land maintained that the State also made adequate arrangements by engaging critical stakeholders ahead of the journey.  Ugandan Athlete Attacked and Set on Fire by Boyfriend, Receiving Treatment for Severe Burns


A Ugandan runner based in Kenya, Rebecca Cheptegei, is recovering from severe burns after a horrific attack by her boyfriend, according to police reports. 


Cheptegei, who was at the 2024 Paris Olympics, was set on fire during a dispute at her home in Trans Nzoia County, Kenya. 


The Trans Nzoia County Police Commander, Jeremiah ole Kosiom, revealed that the boyfriend, Dickson Ndiema, purchased petrol, doused her with it, and ignited the flames on Sunday. 


Ndiema also suffered burns, and both are currently receiving specialized care at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret.


Cheptegei’s parents mentioned that she had recently bought land in Trans Nzoia to be close to several athletic training centers in the area. A local report suggests that the argument that led to the attack was related to this property.
