Thousands protest in Tel Aviv against Netanyahu’s Gaza plan, call for hostages to be freed
Thousands gathered in Tel Aviv on Saturday night to protest Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plan to escalate the war in Gaza, demanding an immediate ceasefire and the release of hostages held by militants. The demonstration reflected growing public opposition to the government’s decision to expand military operations into Gaza City, announced the day before by Netanyahu’s security cabinet despite warnings that such a move could put hostages at greater risk.
Families of hostages, including Lishay Miran Lavi, wife of captive Omri Miran, pleaded for international intervention to end the conflict, urging U.S. President Donald Trump to act. Polls show a strong majority of Israelis favor ending the war swiftly to secure the release of about 50 hostages believed to still be alive. The Israeli government has faced criticism both domestically and internationally, including from European allies, over its hardline approach. Organizers estimated over 100,000 protesters took part, many holding Israeli flags, images of hostages, and signs calling for peace. Voices at the rally questioned the ongoing violence, highlighting the heavy toll on both Israelis and Gazans after nearly two years of fighting.
