 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week.  LASG STRENGTHENS VIS OPERATIONS THROUGH TARGETED TRAINING


.... Trains 35 Senior Officers in Leadership, Conflict Management


The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to building a skilled and effective workforce, as 35 senior Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs) undergo a two-day leadership and conflict management masterclass at the VIS Headquarters, Ojodu-Berger.


The capacity-building exercise was designed to boost morale, enhance productivity, and strengthen officers’ competencies in areas such as personal effectiveness, emotional intelligence, and professional conduct.


Speaking during the session, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, urged officers to understand themselves, identify personal weaknesses, and work towards self-improvement. He emphasised the need for emotional control when dealing with motorists, noting that their role requires patience and professionalism at all times.


The Special Adviser stated that the training is aimed at equipping officers to better manage emerging situations while maintaining high professional standards. He assured the officers that the State Government will continue to prioritise their welfare to enable them to perform optimally.


Also speaking, the Director of Vehicle Inspection Service, Engr. Akin-George Fashola noted that the engagement would help officers relate more effectively with the public through improved emotional intelligence and communication skills.


He encouraged the officers to change the negative perceptions associated with the profession by applying the knowledge gained to improve service delivery, while reiterating the State Government's commitment to fostering a supportive work environment that drives continuous growth and innovation across its workforce.
