Boston has been awarded nearly $47 million in federal funding to support its role in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The city is one of 11 U.S. locations to receive a portion of the $625 million allocated to enhance public safety and operational planning for the international tournament.
The funding will help cover expenses for Boston’s fan festival and the seven World Cup matches scheduled at Gillette Stadium, which are expected to attract around 2 million attendees. The announcement follows a recent agreement between Patriots owner Bob Kraft, the Boston Host Committee, and Foxborough town officials on financing for the games. Foxborough also approved the necessary event license this week. “This is a defining global moment for Massachusetts, and we're committed to delivering a world-class event that will drive lasting economic and cultural impact across the region,” said Mike Loynd, CEO of the Boston Host Committee.
