The Abia State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress wishes to categorically dissociate itself from the comments credited to one of our respected leaders and serving Senator, His Excellency, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, suggesting that the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti of the Labour Party, will be re-elected in 2027. While His Excellency, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu is entitled to his personal opinion as guaranteed by the Constitution, we wish to make it abundantly clear that his remarks do not represent the position, aspirations, or official stand of the APC in Abia State.  2027: Former Ondo First Lady Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu Secures LP Ticket for Owerri Federal Constituency


A former First Lady of Ondo State, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has emerged as the Labour Party’s candidate for the Owerri Federal Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.


Anyanwu-Akeredolu received the party’s Certificate of Return and expressed gratitude to the Labour Party leadership for the confidence reposed in her, describing her emergence as both a milestone and a renewed call to public service.


She said her candidacy presents an opportunity to strengthen engagement with constituents and advance practical solutions to developmental challenges affecting communities across Owerri Federal Constituency.


According to her, political leadership should be driven by service and measurable impact, stressing that her focus would be on listening to constituents and translating their concerns into legislative action.


The former First Lady also explained her earlier withdrawal from the Imo East Senatorial race, saying the decision followed extensive consultations within the party and among key stakeholders.


She noted that the move was aimed at fostering unity within the Labour Party and enhancing its prospects ahead of the 2027 elections.


Anyanwu-Akeredolu emphasised that internal cohesion and collaboration among party members remain crucial for electoral success and effective representation.


She added that leadership often requires sacrifice and commitment to collective goals, maintaining that her decision to contest for the House of Representatives aligns more closely with the needs of the constituency and would enable her to provide focused legislative representation.


Outlining her priorities, Anyanwu-Akeredolu said her agenda would focus on youth empowerment, job creation, and the expansion of digital skills training, among other development initiatives.
