Rep. Chuck Edwards withdraws reelection bid after House Ethics Committee finds evidence of misconduct Republican Rep. Chuck Edwards of North Carolina announced Wednesday that he is ending his reelection campaign, days after the House Ethics Committee said it found “substantial evidence” that he violated House rules involving sexual harassment and a hostile workplace. Edwards said he will complete his current term in Congress but will not seek another term representing North Carolina’s 11th District. He said serving Western North Carolina has been the honor of his life and thanked supporters for their trust. Edwards, who has served in the House since 2023, was expected to face Democratic nominee Jamie Ager in the November general election.  Gaza Health Ministry: Over 1,000 Palestinians killed in Gaza since October ceasefire

Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip have resulted in the deaths of 1,005 Palestinians since a ceasefire agreement was established between Israel and Hamas last October. The enclave continues to experience near-daily airstrikes, shelling, and gunfire, particularly along the boundary separating Israeli- and Palestinian-controlled zones. The latest casualties followed consecutive drone strikes hitting central Gaza towns and refugee camps, as well as parts of Gaza City.

A separate strike on Wednesday in the southern city of Khan Younis killed two Palestinians and wounded six others. While the Israeli military confirmed the strike and stated the intended target was an operative, witnesses reported that the attack hit a gathering near the beach in the Mawasi tent camp, a sprawling area sheltering hundreds of thousands of displaced individuals.

Israel maintains that its forces are continuing active operations against Hamas and allied militant groups while steadily expanding the territory under its direct control inside the strip. Military officials also confirmed the deaths of two operatives from Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad during targeted strikes over the weekend.

The cumulative death toll in Gaza since the outbreak of the war in October 2023 has now surpassed 73,000. Comprehensive health records from the region do not differentiate between civilian and combatant casualties, but tracking systems are generally considered reliable by international observers.
