Antonio Banderas says his relationship with ex-wife Melanie Griffith has remained close more than a decade after their divorce.
The 65-year-old actor told PEOPLE that Griffith, 68, is “if not my best friend, one of my best friends,” adding that they still spend time together and laugh when he visits Los Angeles.
Banderas and Griffith met at the Oscars in 1989 and later worked together on the 1995 film Two Much. They married in May 1996 and welcomed their daughter, Stella, later that year.
Griffith filed for divorce in 2014, with the separation finalized in 2015. Banderas said their ability to remain close was helped by the way they handled their relationship and separation.
He said they were sincere with each other throughout their marriage and ended the relationship in a positive way that was important for both them and their children.
Banderas also praised Griffith as an “unbelievable mother” and said he has enjoyed watching their children grow into good people.
The former couple has continued to appear together publicly. In April 2026, they were photographed having dinner together in Los Angeles and later posed for a family photo with Stella and her husband, Alex Gruszynski.
