 US Seizes Venezuelan President Maduro’s Plane The United States has seized a Falcon 900EX plane belonging to President NicolĂ¡s Maduro of Venezuela. The US claimed the plane was bought illegally for $13million (£9.8m) and smuggled out of the country. According to the US Justice Department, the aircraft was seized in the Dominican Republic and transferred to the US State of Florida, BBC reports. The report is however unclear on how and when the plane ended up in the Dominican Republic. It said however that tracking data showed the plane leaving La Isabela airport near the capital Santo Domingo on Monday, arriving at Fort Lauderdale airport in Florida soon after. There was no immediate comment from Mr Maduro or the Venezuelan government over the matter. Officials said the plane was seized for suspected violations of US export control and sanctions laws.  Actor Obi Ndefo dies at 51, years after losing both legs in hit-and-run crash American actor of Nigerian heritage, Obi Ndefo has died at the age of 51 years after losing both legs in a hit-and-run crash. The cause of the actor’s death is unknown, but his sister and co-stars confirmed his passing on social media. ‘Heartbroken at the loss of my younger brother and knowing he’s finally at peace,’ his sister Nkem Ndefo wrote on Facebook. Ndefo, who is a graduate of Yale, appeared in Dawson’s Creek between 1998 and 2002, where he played Katie Holmes’ character’s brother-in-law Bodie Wells. He additionally starred in Stargate SG-1 between 2000 and 2005. The actor, who was born in Los Angeles to Nigerian parents has also featured in episodes of The West Wing, NYPD Blue, Crossing Jordan, and The District.  Man on the Run After Setting Woman on Fire in Bamenda Tamjong Divine is on the run after reportedly setting a young woman, Ngoran Anifatou, on fire three days ago in Mile 6, Bamenda.  Family members revealed that Tamjong doused Anifatou with fuel before igniting the flames.  Despite being rushed to the hospital, Anifatou sadly passed away on Monday, September 2.  Though the motive remains unclear, family sources noted that Anifatou had previously reported threats from Tamjong.

 Ugandan Athlete Attacked and Set on Fire by Boyfriend, Receiving Treatment for Severe Burns A Ugandan runner based in Kenya, Rebecca Cheptegei, is recovering from severe burns after a horrific attack by her boyfriend, according to police reports.  Cheptegei, who was at the 2024 Paris Olympics, was set on fire during a dispute at her home in Trans Nzoia County, Kenya.  The Trans Nzoia County Police Commander, Jeremiah ole Kosiom, revealed that the boyfriend, Dickson Ndiema, purchased petrol, doused her with it, and ignited the flames on Sunday.  Ndiema also suffered burns, and both are currently receiving specialized care at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret. Cheptegei’s parents mentioned that she had recently bought land in Trans Nzoia to be close to several athletic training centers in the area. A local report suggests that the argument that led to the attack was related to this property.

 UNILAG Medical Student Reportedly Commits Sucide A 300-level medical student at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), identified as Williams, has tragically passed away just a day before the school's examinations were set to begin. While speaking with Newsmen, the provost of the college, Professor David Oke, noted that the student may have decided to take his life due to pressure of the impending examination. He based his suspicion on the fact that some colleagues of the student had reported that he posted a cryptic message, such as ‘goodbye,’ before he was found dead.   Police IG, Egbetokun Gets 3-Year Tenure Extension President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the extension of the tenure of Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, by three years. The disclosure was made by sources at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the IGP’s tenure was extended despite his impending retirement age of 60, which he will reach tomorrow, September 4, 2024. According to the sources, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, presented the IGP with a letter confirming his tenure extension on Monday. A senior security officer at the SGF Office also confirmed that the IGP received his letter of tenure extension from Akume on Monday morning. The move comes after the Senate passed a bill amending the Police Act 2020, which introduced a new clause allowing police officers to serve for 40 years or until they reach the age of 65, whichever comes first.  Enoch Burke: Irish teacher in transgender row jailed for third time Irish teacher Enoch Burke has been jailed for a third time after he was arrested outside the school that sacked him for refusing to “call a boy a girl.”   Mr Burke became caught up in a gender row at Wilson's Hospital School in May 2022.   He told his headteacher that he "opposed transgenderism" due to his religious beliefs and stated he would not address a student, who was transitioning, by their new name and using "they" pronouns.   Burke publicly criticised the school's demand that he uses the student's chosen pronouns.   It came following an email to staff from headteacher Niamh McShane, in which they were asked to address the pupil in question by their new pronouns.   He was first jailed in September 2022 and spent 100 days in prison before his release.   He was jailed for a second time in September 2023 in which he spent Christmas behind bars before he was released in June this ...
