 TEAM LAGOS EMERGES TOP AT 23RD NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL SOUTH WEST ELIMINATION Lagos State athletes proved their dominance in the South West by edging out regional competitors and emerging top in the five team events contested at the elimination series qualifier for the 23rd National Sports Festival later this year in Enugu. The elimination series featured team events in volleyball, basketball, football, beach volleyball, and cricket in male and female categories. While the team clinched only the female football ticket by topping their group, they showed dominance in three other sports by winning both the male and female tickets. Team Lagos took first position in the volleyball male and female categories. The male team defeated their counterparts from Ondo in the finals by 25-18, 24-26, 25-20, and 25-20, while the female team defeated Team Oyo by 25-18, 22-25, 28-26, 16-25, and 15-8. THE DUKE OF SUSSEX ATTENDED THE OPENING MATCH OF THE CRICKET WORLD CUP YESTERDAY.{PHOTOS}.

     'The first ever Cricket World Cup took place in England in 1975 and I'm delighted that the UK will once again play host to this wonderful global sporting event featuring ten incredible teams who, thanks to the UK’s cultural diversity, will feel as though they are competing in front of a home crowd every time they take to the field.'
Yesterday, The Duke of Sussex attended the opening match of the Cricket World Cup which featured England vs South Africa.
The ICC Cricket World Cup, which takes place from 30th May to 14th July, is being hosted by England and Wales and features the world’s top ten teams, nine of whom are from the Commonwealth.
Over one million people are expected to attend matches and World Cup activations in England and Wales, with a further 1.5 billion watching around the world.
Before the match began, The Duke met children involved in youth engagement programmes around the tournament including flag bearers, anthem children and students from a local school who will be involved in the opening sequences.More photos below.
