  As part of activities commemorating the 60th Independence Anniversary of the country, President Muhammadu Buhari will broadcast to the nation on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at 7am. All television, radio and other electronic media outlets are enjoined to hook up to network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) respectively for the address. The President will thereafter, proceed to the Eagle Square, Abuja to review the Anniversary Parade and participate in other activities beginning at 10am, which will be covered live by major television and radio stations.   President Muhammadu Buhari commiserates with the government and people of the State of Kuwait over the transition of the Emir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. According to the President, “the thoughts of the government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria are with the Kuwaitis at this moment.” The Nigerian leader also recognises the diligent commitment of the late 15th Emir of the oil-rich Gulf nation towards peace and stability in the entire sub-region.   The Sokoto Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, September 28, 2020 arraigned the Education Secretary, Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Ishaka Abdullahi, before Justice Malami Umar Dogondaji of the state high court for fraud. He was arraigned on a six-count charge, bordering on obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of N429,000.00 (Four Hundred and Twenty Nine Thousand Naira). Count one read of the charge read: "That you, Ishaka Abdullahi on or about the 16 November, 2018 at Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, did obtain the sum of N135,000.00 (One Hundred and Thirty-five Thousand Naira) from Hassi Abdullahi's account No. 0077129142, domiciled in Union Bank Plc by false pretence, contrary to Section 1 (1)(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act 2006 and punishable under Section 1(3) same Act."   The Lagos State Government has opted for a low key celebration of the 60th Independence Anniversary due to the ravaging effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, which is still with us. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has directed that the planned parade and other activities that involve the gathering of more than 50 people should be cancelled. He congratulates Lagosians on this auspicious occasion and strongly advises that they should celebrate quietly at home and pray for the country. They should also observe the COVID-19 protocols, including wearing of face masks to protect themselves and their loved ones.   A former staff of First Bank of Nigeria Limited, Oreoluwa Adesakin, has been sentenced to 98 years in prison by Justice Muniru Olagunju of Oyo High Court for fraud. A statement released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, said Adesakin was found to have committed financial fraud against her employers to the tune of N49,320,652.32 and an additional $368,203.00 belonging to the bank, which she converted to personal use. She was prosecuted by the Ibadan Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on 14-count charges bordering on stealing, forgery, and fraudulent accounting.
