  Justice I.N. Buba of the Federal High Court, Enugu on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 convicted and sentenced one Ojike Odiwe Maduabuchi to two years imprisonment or pay N200,000 (Two Hundred Thousand Naira) option of fine for obtaining money by false pretence. The convict was prosecuted by the Enugu Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) on one-count charge of criminal impersonation. The charge read, “That you, Ojike Odiwe Maduabuchi sometime in September 2020 in Enugu, Enugu State, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, impersonated one Michael Scott, an American citizen on your Whatsapp account and Thai Friendly Application, with intent to obtain money from unsuspecting Asian women by false pretence, punishable under Section 22(4) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition Prevention) Act 2015.” He pleaded guilty, prompting prosecution counsel, Mainforce Adaka Ekwu to pray the court to convict and sentence him accordingly. Justice Agatha Okeke of the Federal High Court sitting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, has remanded one Vincent Harrison Chukwuemeka, an alleged serial Facebook hacker, in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service following his arraignment on one count charge of fraud to the tune of N407, 000 fraud. Trouble started for Chukwuemeka when a certain Felicity Felix Ekpezu petitioned the Commission on January 5, 2020, alleging that on December 26, 2019, she received strange chats on WhatsApp from the accused who claimed to be a female representative of Facebook and WhatsApp from the United States of America, by name Lisa. The complainant alleged that the defendant informed her that she had won $971 (Nine hundred and seventy one United States Dollars) and an Iphone 6s, and requested her to pay N407, 000 (Four hundred and seven thousand naira) to redeem the items. But after making the payment to the defendant, the complainant said she started receiving calls from her friends and family members...

  The Family Court sitting in Calabar, Cross River State has sentenced 47-year-old Emmanuel Thompson Udo to life imprisonment for raping his 14-year-old stepdaughter. Udo was on Thursday, December 3, found guilty of raping the minor in August, 2018 at his residence No. 45 Afokang Street, Calabar South local government area of the state. He was convicted by Hon. Justice E.E. Ita, Acting Chief Judge of Cross River State and presiding Judge of the Family Court. His conviction was secured courtesy of the Basic Rights Counsel Initiative (BRCI); Hon. Tanko Ashang, former Attorney General of Cross River State; Mr. Felix Itittim, the DPP; Blessing Egwu and the Nigeria Police. Barr. James Ibor, Head of BRCI, said the rape incident was exposed after the victim's mother reported the matter to the group.   Clement Ruth, a final year Political Science student of the Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe (NOCOED) Anambra State, has reportedly been killed few days to her graduation. The deceased student was last seen alive was on Thursday, November 26, after writing one of her final exams. According to Ruth's friend, Ugochinyere Precious who shared photos of the deceased on Facebook, she was found dead. Friends and classmates have taken to Facebook to mourn Ruth. Final year female student Ugochinyere Precious in her post, wrote "just few days to be called a graduate, you were found dead." What a life!!! Very hard to believe you're gone..
