S. A: FOUR PEOPLE HAVE DIED AFTER A CAR WAS SWEPT AWAY AT AN OVERFLOWING BRIDGE IN THE MAKOTOPONG RIVER NEAR SEBAYENG.(PHOTO).

 Four people have died after a car was swept away at an overflowing bridge in the Makotopong River near Sebayeng. Police recovered the bodies after a blue Renault Kwid carrying five occupants was pulled into the river during heavy water flow on Sunday morning, 8 March 2026. One passenger escaped from the vehicle and alerted police and emergency services. Police say the car was travelling along the Madiga–Makotopong gravel road when it overturned at the flooded bridge and was dragged into the river. The Provincial Search and Rescue team recovered the first body on Sunday. The victim was identified as Lebapa Petrus Mochitele, 27, from Madiga Village. EMS personnel declared him dead at the scene. Search operations resumed on Monday with the SAPS Water Wing Unit, EMS Search and Rescue, the Fire and Rescue Department, and an EMS helicopter.  A Limpopo man who stabbed his girlfriend to death in front of his own mother will spend the next 20 years in prison. The Polokwane High Court sentenced 48 year old Nathaniel Molatelo Mokgehle from Sekonye Village in the Botlokwa policing area for the murder of his girlfriend, 41 year old Mokgadi Julia Mohlaela. The court heard he chased her out of the house and continued stabbing her until she collapsed and died. Mokgehle also received six months for malicious damage to property. The sentence will run at the same time as the 20 year murder sentence. Evidence presented in court showed the victim had previously opened a malicious damage to property case against him. He was still attending court for that case when the murder happened. The attack happened on 08 June 2025 around 16:00 at his mother’s home in Sekonye Village.  South Korea and Ghana to expand cooperation on climate, tech and maritime security South Korean President Lee Jae Myung held summit talks on Wednesday with Ghanaian President John ‌Mahama, agreeing to deepen cooperation in climate, digital innovation and maritime security, Reuters reported. The two ​leaders witnessed the signing of three ​agreements, including a climate-change cooperation accord, ⁠a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on ​technology and digital innovation, and a ​separate maritime safety and security MOU between the Korea Coast Guard and the Ghana Navy. Lee ​thanked Ghana’s navy for protecting ​South Korean nationals in the Gulf of Guinea ‌and ⁠said the new maritime pact would strengthen coordinated policing. In a statement  by the Director General, Media and Publicity to the Governor, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the decision is part of the ongoing efforts by the present administration to reposition the state civil service for greater efficiency, discipline, and improved service delivery across all government institutions.  ACCESS TO CNG: PRESIDENT BOLA  TINUBU DIRECTS PiCNG TO DEPLOY ABOUT 100,000 CONVERSION KITS  President Bola Tinubu has directed the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas, PiCNG with an immediate mandate to deploy about one hundred thousand conversion kits to increase people’s access to CNG across the country. The President gave the directive when he received in audience, the chairman of the PiCNG, Ismaeel Ahmed in the state house.  The President sought to know progress update about the initiative as well as what the agency is doing to mitigate possible impact of the war in the Middle East and the rising costs of petroleum product. The administration believes CNG remains a veritable alternative to ease mobility for Nigerians.
