 Republic of Congo holds presidential election, internet disruption reported Internet connectivity across the Republic of Congo was disrupted on Sunday as voters cast ballots in a presidential election, global internet watchdog NetBlocks said. Network data indicated a nation-scale disruption to internet access, the watchdog said on X. A similar near-total nationwide internet blackout was recorded during the country’s March 2021 presidential election, lasting about three days, according to NetBlocks. Polls opened at 6 am (0500GMT) in the country’s presidential election and will remain open until 6 pm (1700GMT). More than 2.6 million registered voters aged 18 and above are eligible to cast their ballots. 6 BLOGGERS & 3 JOURNALIST ARRESTED IN ETHIOPIA.

            They were arrested with attempting to incite violence.All nine defendants,including freelance journalists Tesfalem Waldyes and Edom Kassaye,appeared in court on Sunday after they were rounded up by police on April 25 and 26.On Monday,Human Rights Watch {HRW} called on U.S Secretary of states John Kerry,who visitd Ethiopia on Tuesday,to press the government to unconditionally release all the defendants but Addis Ababa dismissed the critism of the case.According to Leslie Lefkow,HRW Deputy Africa Director says ''The nine arrest signal once again that,anyone who critizes the Ethiopian government,they will be silenced.The timing of the arrests just days before the U.S secretary of state's visit speaks volumes about Ethiopia's disregard for free speech''.
