 LASG HOSTS Y2024 WOMEN'S ASSEMBLY TO EMPOWER, CELEBRATE WOMEN Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to advancing and empowering women, describing them as the pillars of communities, contributing in numerous ways as mothers, entrepreneurs, educators and leaders.  Governor Sanwo-Olu stated this in his keynote address at the 2024 Women's Assembly for Local Government and Local Council Development Areas organised by the Ministry of Women's Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) at the De Blue Roof, LTV 8 complex, Agindigbi Ikeja.  The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Governor, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, described the Assembly as a critical platform for celebrating women’s contributions and tackling challenges affecting their well-being. Seriously ill: Mark Shand (right), pictured with his sister Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, has died in a New York hospital                Camilla,the wife of Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall lost her brother Mark Shand to accident.He slipped while smoking cigarette outside a night club,after attending a charity fundraising party.62 years old Mark was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead.The Duchess,the Prince of Wales and all her family members are devastated by his sudden passing.According to souces,Mark Shand was a man of extraordinary vitality,a tireless campaigner and conservationist whose incredible work through The Elephant family and beyond remained his forcus right up until his death.He was a travel writer and auctioneer.May his soul rest in peace Amen.                                                                                                            Charity: The auction saw a number of eggs which had been decorated by artists and celebrities including Marc QuinnAfter party: Club organisers say he had left the party at the Diamond Horseshoe prior to his fallAccident: Mr Shand is believed to have slipped while lighting a cigarette

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
