Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. An Egyptian court sentenced ex-president Muhammad Morsi to life imprisonment today,in which in Egypt life imprisonment means 25 years in jail.He was sentenced and found guilty for conspiring with the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas,Lebanese militant group Hezbollah and Iran.The court in Cairo also sentenced 16 others to death on June 16,mostly members of Morsi's muslim brotherhood party on charges of delivering secret documents about,between 2005-2019.63 year old Morsi,had been already sentenced to 20 years in jail in a separate trial for inciting violence.One more photo below.
