 Niger says soldiers, civilians killed in armed attack on Niamey airport An attack by armed men on an airport in Niger’s capital has killed 11 soldiers and two civilians, according to the country’s defence ministry, five months after a major assault. Twenty-two armed attackers were also killed in the assault and about 20 suspects were apprehended, the ministry added in a press statement read out on national television on Thursday, Al Jazeera reported. Soldiers in Niamey fought suspected rebels around the Diori Hamani International Airport and a military airbase on Thursday, sources told Al Jazeera earlier in the day. A source said gunmen affiliated with an armed group attacked at approximately 6:00am (05:00 GMT) local time. One airport employee who lives near the airport told Al Jazeera he heard heavy exchanges of gunfire and saw a large military deployment as he drove towards work and decided to turn back for safety. A UNILAG LECTURER MR ARTHUR JOSEPH,WAS DETAINED RECENTLY FOR FIGHTING PUBLICLY WITH A LADY IN SOMOLU.

               47 year old Mr Arthur Avwokeni Joseph,a lecturer with the University of Lagos,was recently detained at Alade Police Station,Somolu,Lagos state Nigeria,after he allegedly fought a lady at a petrol station and tore her clothes.The lecturer works at the Business Administration Department of the University,went to a filling station along Fola Agoro Road,Somolu to buy fuel when there was an altercation between him and a28 year old lady Adeparusi Yetunde over who should buy the product first.Joseph was alleged to have alighted from his car and told Yetunde that if she were one of his students,he would have dealt with her.After the threat and further exchange of words between them,Joseph allegedly slapped Yetunde and in the ensuing scuffle her clothes were also torn.The lecture Joseph also seized Yetunde's cell phone while Yetunde also seized some of his books.Joseph then quickly went to Alade police station and reported the incident.When asked of the whereabouts of Yetunde,he said he did not know.He was then asked to write a statement and while writing the statement,Yetunde's phone that was with Joseph rang and when the police picked the call and asked if she was the owner,she said yes and she was asked to come to Alade Police station where it was discovered that her clothes were torn.Joseph and Yetunde were both detained after they wrote their statements but were later granted bail.
