 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. STEPHEN KESHI,SACKED YESTERDAY BY THE NIGERIAN FOOTBALL FEDERATION.

                         Stephen Keshi's termination was contained in a statement by the Nigerian Football Federation {NFF} Executive Committee yesterday saturday,said the decision was made ''Having thoroughly reviewed the reports/findings of the NFF Displinary Committee and NFF Technical and Development Committee,as well as having reviewed the actions and in actions of Mr Stephen Keshi,in the performance of his duties as Super Eagles Head Coach.Stephen Keshi was found to lack the required commitment to achieve the Federation's objectives as set out in the Coach's employment contract.To this end and pursuant to the provisions of clause 4.3 of the Employment contract between Mr Stephen Keshi and the NFF {The contract}and the various clauses therein,the Nigerian Football Federation has decided to exercise its option to summarily terminate the employment contract of Mr Stephen Keshi with the federation with immediate effect''.NFF 1st Vice Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi,speaking on behalf of the entire Executive Committee of NFF,assured Nigerians that the decision was not taken lightly or with any prejudice,but in the ultimate interest of Nigeria football.He thanked Mr Keshi for his services to the country and wished him the very best in his future endeavors.In the interim,the Super Eagles team affairs will be jointly managed by Assistant coach,Salisu Yusuf and the Technical Directorate of the NFF headed by Coach Shuaibu Amodu,until the Federation names in due course a new Head of coach.One more photo below.
