 Lagos Court Jails NOGASA Chair, Fatuyi Phillips 21 Years  for N43.5m Fraud    Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, on Monday, November 18, 2024, convicted and sentenced Fatuyi Yemi Philips, Chairman, Natural Oil and Gas Suppliers Association of Nigeria, NOGASA, to 21 years imprisonment for N43.5m fraud.   The Lagos Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on April 5, 2022, arraigned Philips alongside his firm, Oceanview Oil and Gas Limited, on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of N43, 502,000.00   Count one reads: "Fatuyi Yemi Philips and Oceanview Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited, on or about the 28th day of September, 2016 at Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud, obtained the aggregate sum of N43, 502,000.00 from Elochukwu Okoye and Elebana Unique Ventures Nigeria Limited on behalf of WAPCIL Nigeria Limited under the false rep

ACTING INEC CHAIRPERSON AMINA ZAKARI IS PRESIDENT BUHARI'S IN-LAW-FAYOSE.

                  These hot gist was revealed by Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state today sunday and his saying that the acting Chairperson Mrs Amina Zakari of the Independent National Electoral Commission {INEC} is an in-law to president Muhammadu Buhari and that as a result,she poses a grave danger to the country's democracy.The governor of Ekiti state further declared that nepotism was unknown to the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria {as amended}.The governor who called on all lovers of democracy in the country to rise in defence of the impartiality of INEC,which he described as the only factor that can sustain democracy.He said ''The most honourable thing for President Buhari to do is to rescind the unlawful appointment of Mrs Zarari as INEC acting chairperson''.In a statement issued by his Special assistant on Public Communications and New Media,Lere Olayinka,Governor Fayose added ''Since Mrs Zarari's tenure as INEC National Electoral Commissioner has expired,she cannot continue to preside legally on INEC affairs,except if duly appointed as substantive chairman of the commission as provided in Section 154 {1} and {3} of the 1999 constitution.Fayose maintained that Section 153 of the 1999 constitution which established INEC and other Federal Executive Bodies did not make any provision for the appointment of Acting Chairman.Declaring the appointment as illegal,Governor Fayose said,Section 154 {3} of the 1999 constitution states ''Provided that the president shall consult the Council of state in exercising his powers to appoint a person as the chairman of INEC and there is no record of such consultation before the appointment of Mrs Zakari as INEC Acting Chairperson''.
