 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. EX-GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS,TO RETURN ALL GOVERNMENT PROPERTIES TAKEN AFTER THEIR TENURE.

                                          According to sources,a committee has been set up by the Federal Government,saddled with the responsibility of recovering government property from former government officials.Mallam Garba Shehu,the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity,confirmed the situation,during a chat with some newsmen in Abuja on sunday ''That is precisely the case,even here at the Villa,there are cars and other property belonging to the government which are yet to be returned.The Buhari's administration will soon begin to demand for the return of these assets.The aim was not to embarrass anyone but to return the properties to government.The properties belong to the Nigerian people.We are not trying to humiliate anyone by asking them to return their cars or houses.Change has come,that is why we have to do things differently now.Imagine how much Nigeria will save by retrieving and re-using these government properties instead of purchasing new ones for new government officials''.
