M23 says hundreds of Burundi soldiers captured in latest Congo offensive The Rwanda-backed M23 group has captured hundreds of Burundian soldiers during its latest offensive in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a rebel official said, as clashes continued despite a warning from the Trump administration. Last week M23 entered the strategic town of Uvira near the border with Burundi, less than a week after the presidents of Congo and Rwanda met in Washington with U.S. President Donald Trump and affirmed their commitment to a peace deal known as the Washington Accords. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Saturday that Rwanda's actions in eastern Congo violated the Washington Accords and vowed to "take action to ensure promises made to the President are kept". The Lagos State Governor Mr Akinwunmi Ambode has declared that community development is a collective effort and cannot be left alone for the Government.The Governor made this known while speaking at the Grand Fiunale of this year's Community Day Celebration held at the Police College Ground,GRA,Ikeja on thursday,12 November,2015.He emphasized that his administration focus on bottom to top approach in governance,underscore its commitment to community developments,adding that it is the Communities that would decide whatever they want from the Government.According to him ''We've made the communities an integral part of our decision making process.It is our communities that must decide what they want from the government and bring it forward.The Communities exist to support its members.The Community is our connection,identity and can only develop with your cooperation''.Governor Ambode charged all Community Development Associations {CDAs} to be law abiding and responsible citizens,saying that they should join the crusade for zero tolerance for street trading and enforcement of environmental sanitation laws.Highlight of the occasion was the presentation of prizes to the best three Community Development Associations {CDAs} that have outstanding self help projects in their communities.Present at the event were top government officials,traditional leaders,white cap chiefs,Executive Secretaries of LG and LCDAs,Party Leaders,Religious Leaders,members of the Community Based Organizations,Transport Unions,Market Men and Women.More photos below.
