 LASG HOSTS Y2024 WOMEN'S ASSEMBLY TO EMPOWER, CELEBRATE WOMEN Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to advancing and empowering women, describing them as the pillars of communities, contributing in numerous ways as mothers, entrepreneurs, educators and leaders.  Governor Sanwo-Olu stated this in his keynote address at the 2024 Women's Assembly for Local Government and Local Council Development Areas organised by the Ministry of Women's Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) at the De Blue Roof, LTV 8 complex, Agindigbi Ikeja.  The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Governor, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, described the Assembly as a critical platform for celebrating women’s contributions and tackling challenges affecting their well-being. ONE OF AL-SHABAAB LEADER WAS KILLED YESTERDAY IN SOMALIA,ALONGSIDE 22 OTHER MILITANTS.

                        Al-Shabaab commander of the Janaale region south of Mogadishu,Abdirashir Buqdube killed alongside 22 others in a joint security operation by the African Union Peacekeeping Mission {AMISOM} and Somalia National Army {SNA} yesterday night.AMISOM's Sector One Commander Brigadier General Sam Okiding,said in a statement issued in Mogadishu that ''Al-Shabaab cannot hide and we shall continue to work hard to deny them safe haven until the people have been liberated from Al-Shabaab terror''.Over the past two days,at least 12 militants have been killed attempting to ambush and disrupt AMISON & SNA troops doing development projects such as borehole repairs and clearing roads reports Xinhua.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
