 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali.                  President Muhammadu Buhari,returned from London today sunday at about 5.32pm     where he was greeted by Members of the Federal Executive Council,Service Chiefs,Chief of Staff to the President,Abba Kyari and Inspector General of Police,Solomon Arase,were among those who welcomed him.Others at the airport were Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara,Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi and other government functionaries.Presidential Guards of Honour was also mounted by the Guards Brigade to welcome the president back home.President Buhari left Abuja on June 6 for a short vacation in London,where he used the opportunity to seek medical attention from a specialist on Ear,Nose and Throat {ENT} for treatment of a persistent ear infection.Welcome back Mr President.One more photo below.
