Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. An experimental solar-powered plane is seen heading to Egypt on the last leg of its round-the-world trip.The Solar Impulse-2 touched down in Spain,after an unprecedented three-day flight across the Atlantic from New York.It's the first time a solar-powered plane had made such a journey using zero fuel and zero emissions.The aircraft's wings are wider than those of Boeing 7-4-7 and are equipped with 17 thousand solar cells,which power the propellers and charge batteries.At night the plane operates on stored energy.The round-the world trip began in March 2015 in the United Arab Emirates.More photos below.
